Surveying, commercial coding and tonnage measurements by a qualified surveyor, a member of BMSE, www.bmse.co.uk and Mecal, www.mecal.co.uk. All surveys are undertaken with full professional liability insurance.

Based on the border of Spain and Portugal, undertaking surveys throughout Europe on GRP, steel, aluminium & ferro cement vessels.

Details of the full range of services provided are detailed below, but please contact me to discuss your specific requirements, and I will be pleased to help.

Pre-Purchase Surveys:

This is an examination of the structure of the vessel, her systems and overall condition, and may include a sea trial.  Following inspection a full written report is provided. This includes clear recommendations for works to be carried out before safe use of the vessel at sea, or which may have implications for insurance. The report may also include suggestions for works which could help prevent deterioration, enhance seaworthiness, and improve the vessel’s overall appearance and performance.

Survey of steel and aluminium vessels will incorporate ultrasound testing of the hull, and for GRP construction moisture readings using the latest digital software driven equipment. Examples of aspects of these inspections can be seen in the accompanying videos.

The equipment used for GRP vessels includes a Sovereign Quantum digital capacitance type meter with current software version 3-9. This operates in both deep and shallow modes to assist in generating a comprehensive picture of laminate condition.

Ultrasound surveys of steel/aluminium employ a Cygnus multi echo meter. Multi echo equipment avoids the necessity for destructive removal of the existing paint system on most hulls.

Insurance Surveys:

These include the areas described above, but with emphasis on those aspects which affect insurability. A report with a simplified format is provided.

Initial Assessment:

A brief inspection, to establish whether a vessel meets the client’s requirements and expectations. Specific requests can be met, such as ultrasound inspection of the underwater hull plating of a steel/aluminium vessel, or assessment of the underwater hull of a GRP vessel.

Damage Surveys:

Following accident or damage, an inspection can be made and a report provided for you/your insurer.

Refit Supervision and Restoration advice:
