The RYA Yachtmaster certificate is held in high regard throughout the world. The examination tests the ability to both navigate and handle a yacht safely and efficiently. Candidates gaining the certificate can apply for endorsement to use their skills commercially. This opens the door to RYA Instruction, yacht delivery, skippered cruising etc.
It is highly recommended candidates undergo a "preparation" for the exam. Here the instructor will initially assess your abilities, and together with you build on your strengths and improve on any areas of weakness. There will be a great emphasis on safety critical aspects and manoeuvring in confined areas under both power and sail.
At the conclusion of the "prep" you will receive an honest debrief, leaving to you to continue with the exam if you feel ready to do so. After the "prep" of 3 days the pre-booked examiner will join the boat. Each candidate will be given between 8 and 12 hours to demonstrate their abilities as skipper of the yacht, as requested by the examiner. Please note that there is additional payment to the examiner which is currently £122. The costs below cover preparation and use of the vessel for the exam.
